What is a landing page?
This is a stand-alone web page that a potential customer gets after clicking on an advertisement or as a result of a search. Landing pages are widely used in marketing due to their fundamental difference from a traditional website: if the main purpose of a landing is a visitor to perform a specific (target) action, then websites are multi-purpose in nature. Such a restriction allows the landing page to be incredibly effective, and therefore remain in demand among specialists.
What are the goals of the landing??
For instance, recording a webinar, generating applications for a particular service or purchasing a product, downloading an e-book or brochures with tips, subscribing to news and products that you offer (purchasing a product), etc.
Today, landing pages are an integral part of any online marketing campaign, and over time, the popularity of this tool only increases.
A landing page is a kind of springboard for your business. They are designed in such a way as to be able to succinctly, but succinctly explain to the potential buyer the essence of the offer and kindle the fire of interest in your product in it so much that they are immediately ready to perform the action required of them.
Landing pages not only allow you to reach the target audience you need, but also collect important information for you – phone numbers and email addresses of interested people. In the future, you will need this information in order to establish contact with them and lead to a purchase decision.
Well, what are landing pages not?
Landing is not an analogue of the main page of a company’s website or any other part of it. Therefore, it is not necessary to place on it the same elements that are present on a regular resource: links, a navigation menu and multiple calls to action (from the English call-to-action, CTA). On the contrary, the fewer distractions, the easier it is to focus the visitor’s attention on only one goal, on one object – your offer.
The main pages of the sites are mainly a place where visitors can find all the information they need about the company, its products and much more, but this should not be on the landing page.
If you still decide that the home page is great for the role of landing, ask yourself two questions:
1. How many goals are presented on the page?
2. How many calls to action?
If there is more than one, the main page does not fit.
Why do you need a landing page?
Landing page is in demand in the process of product promotion largely due to the fact that they can increase your conversion rate in the most affordable and beneficial way for you. And all because landing pages are designed to optimize conversion:
1. Landings have a phrase / advertising match, that is, when the title of your ad matches the title of the landing page. This factor is an obvious confirmation for visitors that they have reached the page they need.
The phrase match between the headings of advertising and landing allows you to avoid the confusion that inevitably arises if a person, requesting something specific and concrete, goes to the main page of the site, where he again has to look for the desired section. Do not mislead visitors – use a uniform wording.
2. The ratio of attention is 1: 1. This means that the number of clickable elements on the page is equal to the number of page targets. Ideal landing should pursue the achievement of only one goal. Any element that is not related to the target action is recognized as distracting and scattering the attention of the visitor.
This condition is necessary for effective landing. Do not give visitors the opportunity to leave the landing without completing the targeted action. You will minimize the possibility of implementing such a scenario if you remove all extraneous clickable elements from the landing page.
3. The simplicity of the split test. The purpose of A / B tests is to find the best landing option that generates the maximum number of leads.
By comparing different versions of the same landing page with each other, you can determine what your target audience responds best to, try some new tactics and tools, and repeat this process as much as you need to find the most effective option – such a combination of elements that give the maximum number of conversions.
It is important to note that it’s much easier to carry out split testing of a landing than the main page of a site, and all because you are dealing with only one goal, and not several.
Key components of effective landing
1. Main heading
The role of the title on the landing page is to convince the visitor to pay attention to the landing page content and carefully study it.
If you want visitors to view and read most of the material you submit, optimize the headline. To come up with a bright and catchy headline, use the 5 tips below:
– start the headline with the pronoun “how” (for example, “How to increase sales by 20 times”);
– ask a question;
– add some humor;
– what is the reason why a person should choose your product?
– propose a solution to the problem.
2. Background heading (subheading)
This title is not required for all pages. Often it is used in cases where it is not possible to fit all the necessary information in the main heading: the appearance of the page spoils. Creating a secondary heading is no big deal: just place an extra line of text under the main heading.
3. USP (Unique selling proposition)
The material of the landing page that belongs to you should answer the simplest question: what makes your service or product better than competitors? But this should not be said directly, as visitors may get the impression that you are praising yourself
The text should talk with the client about himself and his needs. The success of the landing page largely depends on what emotions it will cause the visitor. For example, it is recommended that you use pronouns such as “you” or “your,” where possible.
Demonstrate to potential customers what benefits they will receive after purchasing your product, what benefits they will have. Such an approach will allow, firstly, to personalize the experience of interacting with the landing page, and secondly, it will lay the foundation for building strong and trusting relationships between the buyer and the brand.
When preparing materials, use the “less is better” rule. Express yourself briefly, concisely, but succinctly enough to fully describe the merits and essence of your proposal.
Make sure your text is readable. You should not force people to read huge blocks of text (also typed in small print), because it creates a negative experience and does not allow you to sufficiently capture the main thing that you want to convey. Reading a long text on a landing page turns into torture, and not everyone is able to endure it without loss.
Instead of this:
– use bulleted lists;
– structure the text;
– leave more “air”, free white space;
– use everything that can break the text into parts and make it more accessible to perception.
4. Confidence Indicators
Establishing trusting relationships with visitors is the most important task of any landing. Indicators of trust serve precisely this purpose.
The most common confidence indicators are:
Before you post any statistics on the landing page, make sure they are correct. Always check the accuracy of the data (yes, in general, any other information that you place on the landing page). Incorrect information will destroy any confidence of visitors to you and your offer.
2. Logos of client companies
Demonstrating to potential customers the logos of well-known companies that are your partners or customers is the easiest way to gain the trust of visitors. This indicator is so good that it attracts the attention of even those users who do not know anything about your product, but they are also part of the target audience.
3. Real customer reviews
Placing feedback from real customers also leads to increased confidence in your resource (brand, service) and, therefore, the likelihood of a visitor committing a targeted action. Customer reviews are, as it were, a direct answer to the question that invariably arises for every potential customer: is there anyone else who has already purchased this product? What does he think of him? Did he manage to achieve all the goals with his help? etc.
Reviews should be more than a couple of lines and talk not only about how good your product is. They should tell visitors how your existing customers were able to solve a particular problem using your service.
Greater efficiency can be achieved if the review is written by any authoritative person in the industry, market.
5. The main call to action button
This element bears such a name, since its main purpose is to encourage a person to perform a targeted action on the page. Clicking on this button is the conversion.
What should be the call:
– be the most visible element on the page;
– have contrasting colors (differ in color from the main background);
– use personalized phrases.
Want to increase the number of users of a trial version of the product or the number of downloads of an e-book? The easiest way is to run a landing page. Landing pages will help you achieve your conversion goals in the most optimal way.
